Unless you desire drive completely around Eden Prairie Center and ask a cop, as we did, Wildfire is on the North Side of the Mall. This is from a guy that used to work Navigation for the USAF. It is next to Barnes & Noble and Crave and Scheels. It in the mall so there is plenty of close free parking. Wildfire has a nice patio for the summer. There is a lunch and dinner menu on the door if their website and the pictures I post is not enough.
The theme of all the establishments in the Wildfire family is a Jazz bar in the 40s. And the rich interior of Wildfire perfectly resembles that theme. Wildfire is beautiful inside. It reminds me of 10,000 supper clubs across the nation. And a handful of places in the Twin Cities like: Capital Grill, Mannys, Ruth Chris, Murrays, Stock & Bond I think all of which we have reviewed and other then minor differences they are all nice places to go out to eat at.
There is great food at each, they will have similar experiences, and your bill will be about $175. The problem with us is after a dozen places like these, though it is great food and dining experience to US it get’s old. I say this as we are looking at a new Tapas place next, week which we have NO idea what the experience will be like.
So, we sat down and got the menus, water and the wine list. E had a Wildfire Cab made for the establishment from Broken Earth Winery for $12 and I had an Eruption (Malbec/Syrah) for $14.75. Both were OK neither were great. Now we COULD have bought a $150 bottle off the winelist there are a lot of options.
Then we got the food menus. Normally E orders for me. Just like I pick computers for her. Because she reads all the cooking publications and watches the shows. I on the other hand know how to eat. But at Wildfire it is basically steaks, chops and things of that type.
To me the perfect meal would be served on our back deck watching the animals frolic & fight. We would have a nice fire. The weather would be 80 degrees at sunset, and we would have Morellis steaks on the grill for about $60 while we sip wine and watch a great movie. In ten years of searching, we have NEVER found a steak as good as one cooked on our 8’ deck grill. Btw Morellis is a liquor store and small Market near Metro State overlooking St Paul. We have reviews. So THAT is what Wildfire is being compared to…. They are going to lose. But my job is to tell you about Wildfire.
We were given a basket of bread which was very good. And although my Libre 3+ went through the roof, have the bread it’s great. We also had a Goat Cheese appetizer because I read great things about it. It was kind of like pizza squares or a Tapa. It was good but not great.
So, we looked at the menu and ordered. E only wanted the Coconut Shrimp of which we heard rave reviews for $36. And the Coconut shrimp did not let her down, it was great. Her ONLY complaint is she got ten shrimp when six would have been fine.
OK MY Turn! Another reason we don’t do steak houses is how do you share a steak, as we share most meals weekly for both our wallet and our waist. SO, I looked at the menu. You can’t SHARE a T-bone. But you CAN share a NY Strip.
It has always fascinated me how rarely a restaurant will tell you they are out of something. You have a hundred tables a night, but you know people well enough to keep sixty options in stock… incredible. Well Wildfire at 7:30 on a Friday night was OUT of NY Strip. It was NY Strip not Madagascar Trout. I got to believe the most ordered steak is NY Strip and they are out on a Friday evening. I was NOT upset I was simply shocked. So, I had the skirt steak for $45. I feel BAD I could not report on the NY Strip. The Skirt steak was OK.
The bill was $132, for a meal that was fine. Neither E nor I were impressed. It was a formula/chain steak house nothing to write home about. It’s not like there was a Trio in the corner singing Puff The Magic Dragon, it was your typical steak house that half of America goes to every week. Just not US!
