I first found out about the Hungarian pointer breed Vizsla when my dad got one in the early 80s. The Vizsla is an interesting breed. It was the Dog of the Royalty of Hungary. When the Russians invaded Hungary they killed every Vizsla they could find. Our CIA who preserves a countries culture got twelve Vizslas out and brought them to the US.
If you have ever been around one of these beautiful red dogs you instantly fall in love with them. The name Vizsla stand for excitement which the breed has.
E and I looked at the Star Tribune every Sunday for six months to find a breeder before that World Wide Web came online. One day we saw an advertisement for a litter. I called before 9AM on a Sunday and asked if there was a female available? I was told there was one. I said can I run money out for a deposit to hold it. The breeder said you didn’t even ask how much. I said no but I wanted the only female. Turned out he was charging $800 for pups and I promptly drove out to Plymouth that morning for a deposit. Her name would be Jazz the first of five Vislas we would own.
Our last Vizsla we bout ten years ago. Almost to the clock Vizslas live about thirteen years. Something went wrong with that litter. Jenny’s littermate died at six years oaf age and Jenny died at nine years of age.
Dogs should be bought in pairs. Two are much better than one. Losing Jenny our Springer never raised her head for six months so we tried to get another Vizsla to pair her up with.
We contacted rescues and breeders throughout the Midwest and owning Bird Dog News we have connections.
