With the Holidays we do a number of seasonal things. Tonight we are at The Heights Theatre a Classic Vaudeville Theatre that was built in 1926 and is the longest continuously running Theatre in the Twin Cities.
The Heights Theater was built by Arthur Gluek, yes of Gluek Brewery, as a real Estate venture. The Heights survived THREE fires including one bombing. And a 1959 Fridley Tornado.
In 1998 Tom Letness bought the theater and returned it to its original charm. It took him over a decade to return the Heights to it’s original charm. That included restoring the 2600 piece chandelier made of Egyptian lead crystals. In the 240 seat theater. During restoration a Wurlitzer Theatre Organ was discovered under the stage. That was restored to beautiful sound we hear in the singing set we hear when we saw the 1950 White Christmas movie.
We saw a classic movie White Christmas from 1954 with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney. Don’t know Rosemary Clooney? You might know her nephew George Clooney. White Christmas is a classic popular song and dance movie with great songs written by Irving Berlin. It takes us from WWII war time entertaining the troops to the 1950s to help their general who was down on his luck.
The show was $12 each and was sold out and included a 30 minute live performance of a local singing talent Maud Hixson. It was a great show and a step back to simpler times.
Other upcoming shows include: It’s a Wonderful Life, Mommie Dearest, Fanny & Alexander, Brazil, A Laurel & Hardy Festival, Miracle on 34th St., The Princess Bride.
