Second Day winery tour two

Our next tasting was at the tasting room for Stolpman Vineyard a few miles away from Fess Parker.  Tasting rooms are small restaurant size places that the winery allows people to taste their wine when they don’t want them at the vineyard. We emailed Stolpman the week before asking if we could see the Vineyards. Our email was never acknowledged. We found out later the winery was on private land, aren’t they all? And was not open to the public. Had we known that we would not have wasted our time there. There are a hundred tasting room in Santa Barbara 200 if you incude restaurants that arent very different.

We did our due diligence and went to the Stolpman Vineyard website and got a 3 PM tasting reserve. We were greeted and seated as any other guest.

We tasted four wines: a white estate L’Avion Roussanne $52 retail. Wine two was a La Cuadrilla for $21. Wine three a Sangiovese for $31 and wine four a Angeli for $57. We were told they only grew Rhone region grapes. When we asked about Italian grapes ie Sangiovese and they Rhone only statement was corrected.

Then I was told one of the wines we had was rated 94. I asked to look at the bottle. To us if we can find a 91+ wine we usually buy it. 94 are very rare. Yet no sticker or mention of the 94 rating on the bottle. The wine was far from great and given our new knowledge we would pass on it next time.

The next day I got email from the winery based on our low rating and asked about our email and they don’t read all their email.
