Every community in the Midwest has some type of annual celebration. For New Brighton that is the second weekend in August each year. On Saturday is the Stockyards Day parade. It’s about a mile long and snakes through town. And at each corner there is a car blocking entrance and police to make the route safe.
Each year the parade starts at St John the Baptist church the largest church in the city. Which is located a block from city hall and the police & fires departments. St John School, where our grandchildren attend has a participation point system. Walking in the parade is worth 2 points each of the 25 required. We get a third of our annual requirement done in two hours. So, we always walk the two miles in the parade.
The parade has 68 units representing cities, towns and organizations across the metro. It ys a fun parade to see and walk in.
