Winery Day 2
Friday day 3 in Santa Barbara was a fun and interesting day. We spent a couple of hours at Melville winery on a tour. They are a top-notch winery. We got the full tour including the vineyards and the barrel room. The wines were very good. We were asked by the great people of North Loop Wine and spirits to review Melville and they were correct.
When we decided to go to Santa Barbara, we looked at the 200 wineries and didn’t know where to start. So we watched You Tube videos to start with. The Fess Parker winery looked very good so we put it on our list. About two weeks before we were to leave, we started asking friends and other wine drinkers what their favorite Santa Barbara winery was. We were asked to go to Melville that filled two of our four wineries we would do in two days.
Then my cousin in LA told me about two winery accounts he had in his PR Business. And lacking any better ideas we went to them. One was Stolpman Tasting room which was not great. And the second was Grassini Family Vineyards which was right out of a fairy tale incredible.
Stolpman never read our email requesting to see their winery. And Grassini had paper placemats with our names on them. I know it was simply names on a piece of paper but they went out of their way to make us welcome and their incredible winery showed their excellence.
We drove around a local town called Lompac which is designed in a Danish style. Lompac has a ton of restaurants and tasting room. Gas was $5.50 about $1.50 more than in MN but most of that difference is state TAX!
After we finished the day reviewing wineries, we went back to the hotel for some hot tub time and then went to a restaurant recommended by several winery people: Brophys Seafood right on the Warf. We went and yes it was incredible.
