E&I joined the Wayzata Yacht Club about five years ago for something to do. The few hundred dollars a year investment in our fun time has more than payed for itself. We don't own a boat but no one sails alone, you need rope pullers, someone to put away and get out the sails, someone to stear, someone to grab a few beers & chips, that's E&I, we pull ropes.
The Wayzata Yacht Club sails six months out of the year from November to April, we party! The off season presentations are incredible. Two years ago we watched a presentation on two months on the agean sailing the islands of Greece. Thus E&I did two weeks on the Med last year and knew a whole lot more about the area. Did you know if you are a day sailor in Greece you need to bring a 8' 2x4? It is used to get from the boat to the dock. Oh BTW you need to pull that plank before 10 PM so the rats don'' come on board late night. It's a rule!
Anyway so when we saw that the January presentation was about a guy that sailed around the world on a Clipper, ok it was a big ship, whatever they call them. Arne Stefferud gave us a presentation about how he crewed on a around the world trip. When we read about the presentation we asked if we could bring our grand kids which we did.
The presentaion was a bit long with lacking of timelines and Powerpoint text to update you slide for slide, but it was interesting. Arne paid about $50K for his adventure he also paid the fare of a young man associate.
The trip took them from Canada to New Orleans through the Panama Canal, The Galapagos Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Cook Islands, where he got a tatoo based on his life experiences, Tonga, Fiji, Malakula, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Java, Madagascar, saw the worlds oldest turtle 200+ years, Cape of Good Hope, St Helena, Venzuela, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua, finally back to Canada.
It is a worthwhile presentation if you get a chance to see it.
