Rudy's Redeye Grill
We get asked all the time, “what is the Best … in town”. If they are asking about the outside deck and Rudy’s Redeye Grill of White Bear Lake is not on the short list, the list is in a word ”WRONG.”
We have been to a lot of decks in the Twin Cities: WA Frost, Skybar, LaGrolla and Rudy’s Redeye Grill, where 96 turns from White Bear Lake to Stillwater, is in that class. I don’t know exactly what it takes to make a great deck, but you know one when you are there. Rudy’s is quiet, clean and beautiful. Their food is good and not too spendy. From looking around it seems they service drinks about twice as fast as food. But we like both.
We drive past Rudys, everytime we go out to run dogs in hunt tests in Hugo. We have meant to stop, and others have recommended the place. So, when E wanted to go to a patio after we got rained out at the state fair, Rudy made the top of the que.
One of the best aspects of Rudys is the fact that it is part of the Best Western Country Inn of White Bear Lake. Which means if you have a party or celebration that might involve excessive possibly late-night drinking, what a better place to do it and have a Sleepover.
The deck is centered on a cocktail bar right out of a Caribbean movie, I looked for but failed to find Tom Cruise. And the pours including the two great glasses of wine we had were very good. And you might FIND an occasional umbrella drink!
They had six red wines: that included the ever popular Apothic Red, A Medoza Malbec, a CA Merlot, A CA Noir and a CA Cab. Accepting the Apothic for those that still drink it, they all looked good.
They have about ten draft beers and ten bottled beers including Guinness so you, may have to choose more than one!
Their menu have everything you would expect to eat at a great rooftop bar: steak, fish & chips, Tacos, BLTs, salads, Burgers the best food choices in the world. I had the signature Rudy burger and E had a Cheeseburger and salad. All were very good and killer fries.
Our food bill was $40 after sitting at the bar for 30 minutes waiting for a table on a Thursday evening. I’m sure we will return to Rudys!
