As I said in my previous post, Restaurant Depot, we enjoy interesting stores. And we also like to cook. So restaurant supply stores are right up our wheelhouse. This was the second restaurant supply I have seen in the past five years that I had wanted to see, since our Superior Products store on the corner of Fairview and County Rd C shut down a few years ago. If we need something for our eight ft back deck grill we buy from the professionals. And you know what? Nothing wears out. Yea double the cost but it's a last time buy with everything.

Rapids Restaurant Equipment is just off 280 and Como Ave kind of between the UofM campuses. This place is smaller and more of an equipment store. Restaurant Depot also has a ton of food, similar to Costco. But like E says we don't eat three dozen chicken legs at a sitting so Costco or Restaurant Depot are just not our style. We are at Rapids Restaurant Equipment for the equipment.

The problem we are solving today is a one ounce pour for our Wayzata Yacht Club wine tasting we are hosting in March. There is 25 ounces in a bottle of wine. A wine tasting is a one ounce pour. So you SHOULD be able to get 25 pours/tastings/bottle... Should. but if that one ounce pour is 1.1 ounce those 25 pours turn into 22 and SOMEONE is going without wine. We have a group of 40 giving us a seven person buffer with the three presenters, but we NEVER run out of wine. And with six wines adding an extra bottle of each adds $150 to the wine bill. Ouch!

So our job is to get an accurate one ounce pour. We had some one ounce pourer from earlier in life, but they do not work accurately. So we ordered six from Amazon sizes .5, 1.0 and 2 ounce. But brand new out of the box none of the three were accurate or consistent. One pour from any of the three you would get .5 ounce, next pour greater than the size on the pourer. That took us earlier to Restaurant Depot to get their PROFESSIONAL bar supply. Guess what, they were no better.

So our solution was fairly simple. It's a solution that has been part of engineering for millenniums. When your measuring systems don't work, as is the case. You take the most accurately consistent system you have and SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess it). SO we decided if we counted to five, E uses six, while pouring a non-measure spout we could hit one ounce pretty consistently. Great! We have six wines for the wine tasting times two bottles, we needed twelve open pourers we did not have. Time for a restaurant supply! No they don't have them at Walmart!

SO we went back to this Rapids Restaurant Equipment at 280 and Como and yes we got what we need. PLUS I got to get past my nosiness about the place.

Rapids Restaurant Equipment ONLY has Restaurant equipment not food like Restaurant Depot. AND there is no membership requirement at Rapids Restaurant Equipment like there was at Restaurant Depot.

So if you are looking for a spring tune-up on your grill or cooking equipment you should go to both for restaurant quality cooking stuff. Especially since Glass Door cooking supply on Hennepin & Lake closed it's doors a real loss. Rapids Restaurant Equipment & Restaurant Depot are ten minutes a part BOTH on Como Ave by 280. We love BOTH Places. Do them on a rainy day. You'll be glad you did.
