In the twin cities we have several food courts with multiple restaurants under one roof. Great examples in the Twin Cities are: Surly, Malcom Yards, Mid Town Global Market, Graze and more. Downtown Santa Barbara the food court is called The Public Market and it is about a mile from the Marriot, you decide if that is walkable.
In 1986 movie Crocodile Dundee was introduced to America we were introduced to the walk-about a simple term which means let’s walk around and see what’s around. It’s a common thing in engineering. It’s what we do before we leave the house for extended period of time. We walk to every room in our house before we leave. Just like in engineering what are we looking for? I tell you if something doesn’t look right. And I’ll tell you what I found. It’s amazing what you will learn.
We do a similar thing in new places we go. But it’s a drive around. When you are someplace new, like Santa Barbara get in the car and start driving ever larger circles. A mile is far enough. Plan on the entire thing taking a half and hour. Looking at maps are one thing, seeing it yourself is much better. We knew the community marketplace existed on the map but we did not know if they sold, art, food, toilet paper or whatever, some names mean so little.
Had the community marketplace been called the food court we would have gone there from day one. It took the Walk About to find it. And it was worth it. There was a dozen plus restaurants and bars in one place. There were restaurants serving breakfast to midnight. We ate three meals there a mile from the hotel.
On day 2 the food court has pizza for us that fit the bill.
On day 3 & 4 we ate breakfast there.
Once we found the food court we went there for half the meals we had left.
