PD Pappy’s

If you have had a burger in Stillwater overlooking the old Lift Bridge and the beautiful St Croix Valley, you have eaten at one of about six great restaurants. If you are near the water looking south upriver from the old lift Bridge you are probably at PD Pappy’s.

We went to PD Pappy’s during the Harvest Fest Art Show Saturday Oct 11. There are few meals better than a great burger on a deck, that is PD Pappy’s. The Stillwater waterfront was PACKED with people: artists, art lovers, friends & relatives and as the show people call them Tire Kickers.

When we got to the north end of the river front E said let’s get a great burger. So, into PD Pappy’s we went. Now in the line going to heaven at the front of the I busted my azz line are servers at places like this. There was a few hundred people that wanted three things: A burger, some fries and a drink and the servers were doing the best they could.

We were seated about two minutes because I have a trick! Don’t tell anyone! Find someone who are getting a bill and ask if they are done and ask if we can have your table. It doesn’t hurt to toss them a $5 bill to help them with the tip. Standing sucks.

Caroline our waitress started by apologizing for how busy it is. She was about to give us menus when I said, stop. Get us each a burger a fry and a Pepsi or coke. Her head dropped and said: thanks for knowing what you want, I’ll get it out as fast as I can. We said: No hurry, just do the best you can it’s a beautiful day. She smiled and said thanks!

Five minutes later we had one of the best burgers & Fries we have ever had, drinks and a smile from Caroline.

If you need to put a timer on your server or your food don’t go to PD Pappy’s, especially if something is happening on the popular river front.

Yes, we tipped her well and will be back for a great burger next time we are there. Our bill was only $35, well worth it. Can you get a burger, fry & pop at Mickey Ds for $17? I think not!
