Park Tavern A Packer AND Viking Bar
 
The three most watched sports teams in the Twin Cities are: The MN Vikings, The Green Bay Packers then the MN Twins. After that things fall off a lot.  There is lot of reason for that. The Twin Cities was once a part of the Wisconsin Territory to the Mississippi then when Wisconsin became a state they threw it back to the current boundaries.
 
The Green Bay Packers go back to 1919 the MN Vikings came in 1961. So the football team in MN WAS the Packers for forty years. The Packers have a few fans from that era. There are people that follow a team that wins it all. And lastly some of us carpet baggers that are from right next door and call the Twin Cities home.
 
Some people convert when they move but that almost never happens with Packer fans. And all over the world Packer fans find each other, usually in bars and drink together. A few years ago, when the Packers played IN Seattle when the Seattle team took to the field they were Booed. They all paused as they were in their home stadium. But there was THAT many loyal packer fans that came to see their team. We have been known to be loud. OK only on days ending in Y.
 
Most of us Packer fans would easily hand over $100 a year to watch every game on TV. Hell, some of us handed over $300 for a piece of paper calling us OWNERS, some of us TWICE!
 
Anyway, we enjoy watching our Green & Gold together in the fall. When E&I got married, we waited for Gabes in the Park to open at 10AM to get seats at the then only Twin City Packer bar for a noon game. WE have gone to a handful of bars over the years for Packer games.
 
Then last year I must have found someone in a weak moment for they revealed the quintessential Twin City Packer Bar: Park Tavern in St Louis Park. I knew when I walked in the door it was a Packer Bar when I saw the sign about Cleaning Guns at the bar. Yep that’s a Wisconsin place!
 
Park Tavern is one of the largest sports bars in the Twin Cities. They have TWO rooms for view football one for Viking fans, near the door for those that leave early. And the back bar for Packer fans that extends outside because SOME of us ain’t so house trained.
 
This is our second year at Park Tavern and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. When the Packer game is not on local TV you will find us there. WITH our Super Bowl Ring. Sorry I can only bring one at a time, security for that is expensive enough. As Green Bay Packer Owners it is deductible.
 
We go about 11:00 AM to get a nice bar seat with views of a few of the two dozen TVs showing every Packer game. We also order and eat incredible lunch and are done eating by the time the game starts. On the main Packer bar you will find a drink dispenser that has some kind of green booze. We don’t care WHAT it is. Green & Booze, sure I’ll have a shot with each Packer score, along with the rest of the bar ON THE HOUSE!
 
Have nothing to do with the rest of the family, there is also a bowling center, video game area and yes, a second bar with the Viking game. With the patio the place can hold about double what’s at Games or any other Packer bar.
