Most Friday nights we start our weekend with a FREE wine tasting at North Loop Wine & Spirits. There are a handful of great places to buy wine in the Twin Cities, North Loop is one of them. We take fifteen minutes, before we go out to eat and go to North Loop most Fridays about 6:15. Watch the evening news, go to North Loop tasting and make 7 PM reservations.
Why do we do that? Number 1 because it's free. Number 2 they are easy access and have free parking. Fifteen minutes get us in, taste 6 wines and out. We have been running wine events and clubs for about tweleve years. It is VERY rare that we do not learn something at every Friday night event. The people that are pouring the wines know wines.
We used to go to Surdyks 5 minutes across the river... closer to us. They pour until 6. So we could not finish watching evening news. The pourers at Surdyks are college aged guys & gals and are great eye candy and they work for cheap. That's where it ends. We kinda got tired of getting the bottle to figure out what grape was in the bottle and explaining it to the pourer. Who would say THAT'S interesting, I'm NEW this week! We'll drive 5 more minutes and learn something.
But beyond wine the people at North Loop know the area and the new restaurants and are rarely wrong. We used to knightly take their advice on where to eat. And the wines poured at North Loop are simply better and many times poured by the local distributor who MAY have been at the winery and tells us about it.
For the time being they are outside in back of the store. Hopefully this winter they will again be at the back of the store again. For us it's a great way to start the weekend with some nice people and learn about wine.
