Nolos Rooftop
We love to eat outside. Whether steaks on our back deck or one of the many local outdoor venues. A few years ago before it closed our number one place to eat in the Metro was Skybar on 7th & Hennepin. Our son said how do you two get in there? That is for the beautiful people. We said we go in at 7 after our traditional wine tasting. He said Oh, the beautiful people don’t go there until 9PM.
Tonight we found out where the beautiful people go before 9PM. They are at Nolos Rooftop a mile away on Washington in the North Loop. And we went there to tell you about it.
We had reservations for 7:30 and showed up at 7PM, wine tasting was uneventful, we solved none of the worlds problems. When we checked in at the maitradee she said are you sure you desire to go to the rooftop, it has a limited menu. We knew we wanted to review Nolos Rooftop for you so we said that was fine. She then showed us the limited one page menu. We understood the limited menu but Nolos Rooftop was one of two major rooftops in the metro we had not reviewed and tonight was the night, so we accepted we would be ordering apps not entrees.
Turns out the reservations are not for the rooftop but we took our chances. We walked to the back of Nolos to an huge elevator in back to the building that took you not only took you to the rooftop but it seems Nolos have a basement restaurant too, it’s on our review list.
When we arrived at the rooftop there was a small room with security before you get in the rooftop area. We like the safety aspect.
Believe it of not we did not have our IDs checked.. those were the days. We looked over a half filled deck with a good number of seats. The bar over looks Washington Ave no tables or seats in the area. So you can’t yell at people or watch the occasional arrest on Hennepin part of the charm of Skybar.
The entire rooftop has One bar where you order your food on a one page menu for appetizers. We ordered for wines a Noir for $15 and I had a White Processco for $13. The have a VERY limited wine menu Five wines: A Prosecco, A Grigio, a Sauv Blanc, a Rose’and the ONLY Red a Noir. A few more reds would be nice. They have 8 beers. Both food & drink are limited but acceptable.
They have ten food choices which comes out in a couple of minutes, amazingly fast. The food menu include: Whipped Feta, Burrata, Crab Dip, Hummus, Poached Shrimp, Melon & Proscuitto, Tuna Poke, Street Corn Salad, Kale Caesar Salad, Thai Shrimp Salad. Prices from $14 - $19 a nice cheap price.
We ordered the Thai Shrimp Salad for $19 and the Crab Dip for $18. Both were out within 5 minutes and both were great. Our entire bill with $65 + Tax or $72.49 a pretty cheap date with food & two glasses of wine.
There was the Dallas Cowboys on a Small TV. What it should be a 8’ tall projection, like on our back deck. Good Tunes you could hear but not need to raise your vice to talk over.
The beautiful people were 25-35 years old and dressed well.
It was a good place, even with the limited menu. If you are going out on a beautiful evening or you should check out Nolos Rooftop bar. We are in a tossup if we will return, it was OK
