Mucci’s

Finding great restaurants in the Twin Cities can be a challenge. A challenge we readily accept. It starts with finding the dining gems. Then getting reservations, when they are available, and not renovating. (We don’t wait in lines) Then locating the place, and finding a place to park,  not as easy as it sounds. Finally find the food to order WE like and still keeping our budget under $100.

E was really looking forward to Mucci’s for weeks. We went there on a gloomy rainy March night which perhaps didn’t help. But we are small business owners, we cut people a lot of slack.

There are certain things for Friday night date night we require that can taint the experience. First of all, if it is an Italian or Mediterranean restaurant, they must have good wine, NOT great wine, but good wine. So, when E ordered a Nebbiolo and a Noir two vastly different wines, they should not taste the same as they did. And neither had any personality, they were like box wine. WHICH we drink MOST nights. Maybe even LESS taste.

As far as what we order. We like to be told of specials. We get one shot at most restaurants, tell me what’s good. I don’t do liver or Brussel sprouts clearly for medical reasons, but we’ll give it a try. So, when the young lady next to E said try the Special Pasta, we said sure. But that too was mostly tasteless.

Now is it fair to compare Mucci’s to the amazing food week we just had at Desire of Cancun, perhaps not but hey we can’t always control our place in the line-up and great places sometimes come from the strangest places.

Case in point Mucci's is located not too far from St Paul’s: 7th St. Fort Rd, the river, the brewery and where Ayd Mill Road joins 35E a couple miles south of St Paul. About two miles away is another restaurant. About similar size or smaller, Mucci's which seats 40. This restaurant also on a corner in a residential district next to St Cates, both Italian restaurants though Luci Ancora has ABSOLUELY AMAZING FOOD & wine! At a similar price.

But hey one never knows. Some nights are ok, some nights are incredible. Mucci's was just ok.

The people at Mucci's were nice. The venue was small but full. The food was just So So. Perhaps it’s time to get some new recipes and maybe people. Our bill was $90, about average, but we would not go back. We wish them the best of luck!
