Martina

Last week was my birthday… 30 is tough. E asked me where I wanted to eat? Without missing a beat, I said Martina. I guess that makes it my favorite restaurant we have reviewed in the Twin Cities. And why is that?
Martina is an interesting restaurant. It succeeds in so many areas others are just lacking. In no particular order. Martina has good, interesting food that doesn’t break the budget… much. I had a great salmon dish for my birthday, though it being an Argentinian restaurant I looked forward to a nice steak. The only steak they had was a $40 6 oz Wagyu Steak. Wagyu is fine but 6 oz is not. Martina like many restaurants change their menu sometimes weekly. Which makes it nice to go back often. But 6 oz is not a large quantity for my birthday, I rarely order under 10 oz with steak. I’m sure it was good but. I have had a great 10 oz steak at Martina, just not that night and my Salmon was good.
Another thing about Martina is they have an antechamber. That’s those two doors at the entrance that keeps the polar breeze from flowing through the restaurant. Now if you are one of those tall idiots that feel the need to hold open BOTH doors at once and flood the restaurant with artic air, get a clue, it’s bad manners.
The ceilings in Martina are some of the tallest and what that means is you won’t be right on top of your neighbors’ conversation. Well unless you have someone who’s a foot away from your back complaining about men for an hour and required to say SO in each sentence, even after three hours of milking one glass of wine… NOT that I noticed… LOL! Restaurants make their money with turnover, if you like a restaurant take an hour or so and go to a club that is designed for conversation. Can I recommend Chloe?
The servers at Martina are very nice. Ours apologized for how long our food took, yet we had two courses in 20 minutes before the entrée was served. We thought it was fast.
The crowd at Martina is an upscale, blue jeans and dress shirt but there are a few dress to the max and you’ll see a Limo drive up.
We sat next to the window overlooking the street. It absolutely amazed me looking at the sparce sidewalk traffic that inside of Martina was literally hundreds of people at their three seating areas. The Martina staff have the entire process figured out.
My complaints on the night… I wanted a 12 oz steak and more than one offering of great Argentina wine, all of which were minor for such a great place.
