Marna's

There are several ways to get on our list of places to go. One of them is having food from an areas we are clueless about.

Tonight we are at Marna's of Robbinsdale, Costa Rican Food. You know Costa Rican Food… no idea either huh… book it.

We always go to the restaurants website but that doesn't mean we will know much more when we sit down.

So we started out with a corn bread $7, that tasted more like a pudding than a cornbread but it was good. Like a smooth cornbread. It was pretty good. Kinda like waffles or bread pudding.

The wine list had four reds… well they actually had only two Cabs you could order by the glass. So we both had cabs. The wines ere passable.

The salad and Arsenal salmon were both spicy. Don't bring your parents from the range here, there's more spices than catchup.

But spicy rice & salmonin the shape of a Mayan Pyramid like Chicsa Niza a few countries north was an interesting treat topped with salmon.

The salad was unusual but nothing to write home about. It was spicier than a garden salad with pulled pork & Tortilla Strips. E liked it I ate it as a spicy salad. I preferred the spicey salmon rice.

We were adequately filled with three courses so we ordered no entre. But E did want desert so we ordered Flan for desert. Problem is before 8 PM on Friday night they were already out… It amazes me this doesn't happen at restaurants more often. But that is what chefs are paid for I guess.

Our bill was under $55 for three courses. If you take the wines out of the bill that's a bit more than McDonalds it much more interesting and yes better. It's not really expensive to go out if you choose wisely.

We always drop off our card to our waiter/waitress after we pay for our bill. Tonight our waitress was nice enough to bring over the head chef and owner cxx xxxx. He spoke of Costa Rica, his country, his people and their food.

We had a good but not great meal. We are glad we went but don't expect to return. There are so many restaurants to try.
