Lucia Acoria

After last week going to a terrible Italian Restaurant in Robbinsdale I asked E to get us into a great Italian Restaurant. She said fine where?

I looked through the places we had not gone in a while and said on the corner by St Kates there is a small, Great Italian restaurant we have not been to in a while, Lucia Acoria. So, E set it up and we went there.

We noticed Lucia Acoria a few years ago when we had a taste of wild boar, then only place in town that served it, kitty corner from Lucia Acoria. Though we knew the address of this now closed place, we could not find the restaurant.  We could not find a name. Then I looked at the bottom of the PBR sign and there it was. It was like I was back in WisCONsin!

Other than more open than La Grolla, a mile or so a way, Lucia Acoria has the same Vibe… Class. There was a table six feet away that I could not hear a word. The table had a great desert and I commented on it. And we ended up getting the same Crème Bullea. Turns out the guy was a Fluid Dynamics PhD. And since we were in University Row, I’m sure most the clientele there that night was of similar stature. Not known for talking loud.

Lucia Acoria has off street parking which is a great relief in the area. The patio is beautiful reminisce of what where we ate at in Rome & Naples, when we were at last year on our Med Cruise. That night on the brick patio, a block from the final resting place of the then past pope. Lucia Acoria’s patio was similar looking. Last year I looked at E and said: “Guess what!” E said what, “We are in ROME! Can you believe IT!? E said it’s just setting in.

So, we were seated, as soon as E arrived. I on the other hand was discussing life with some people that commented on my new blazer with an arm full of sequin. It was a Facebook/Amazon Special. NOT hundreds of dollars but looked fun and sure to start a conversation.

For a wine list Lucia Acoria has only about five red wines, we had a great Barbaresco and Sangiovese in minutes… and great pours besides. Five quality red wines are enough on a menu. As long as Yellow Tail is not one of them. We were at an Italian restaurant we should not expect Marquette or Frontenac grapes.

When we got the wines E said a FAR CRY from the box wines we got last week. E said her Sangiovese was better than my Barbaresco, but BOTH were great wines. We never order the same wine so we can taste more than one option.

For an appetizer we split an Insulata Cesare which was a VERY fresh Ceasars Salad for $9 a deal. Great food need not be expensive if you choose well and we try to help you with that. For a second app was an antipasti for $15. It was bread with Lox and an Italian dressing. These were to die for apps. In addition to the bread plate, they provided.

Then for the main course was Pasta De Jour. E chose it, I don’t know food, other than knowing what I like. E knows what keeps my blood sugar on my Libre 3 in check. E reads the food magazines and watches the food shows. Ask me about engineering, dogs, history and marketing.

The Pasta De Jour came next, for $22 and it was incredible both in looks and taste. Again, we shared one serving. Two different weeks, last week looked like something that came out of the microwave and this week I almost asked for a larger fork, it smelled & tasted incredible.

The Pasta dish was a combination of: pasta, chicken & broccoli with a white sauce. Something you would see on an Italian cooking show!

After commenting on the table next to us’s Vanilla Bean Crème Burulee we needed desert. Which again was incredible.

And in the end our bill, with desert and two wines this week was under the $100 we like to set. In fact, $91.85 WITH two wines, Desert AND THREE midway taxes included. For someone who monthly pay $20+ for fast food, treat yourself someday to an incredible meal at someplace like Lucia Acoria. It is now in our Top Ten great places in the Metro to eat!
