Los Cactus
Did you ever have a restaurant you have driven past for years and finally broke down and went in? That was Los Cactus for us. Five years ago the building Los Cactus is in was a KFC we would regular. What a loss.
We drove past Los Cactus for years. Today when I asked E where we were going tonight she said with the holidays she did not have reservations and feared it was too late. So I said let’s try Los Cactus and she agreed.
So, after scouting out a new wine room and doing our Friday wine tasting we headed North on Central to 49th Ave by the Savors & Sonic. We knew Los Cactus was Mexican Street food but our knowledge ended there. I mentioned it’s like Chipolte, E said, “Sure but not as good.”
So we went through the line reading the menu boards. You can have bowls, plates, combos, quesadillas, Chimichanga, enchiladas, nacho, salads & tortias.
For meat Los Cactus offers: Chicken, steak, Barbacoa (Goat, beef & lamb) , A Pastor (Pork), Caritas (Pork), ground beef, Chorizo (sausage), Tripa (Tripe intestines) & Lengua (Beef Tongue).
For drinks they had: Mango, Watermellon, Pineapple (I had it was good) Hibiscus & Horchata Creamy sweet beverage. Also Mexican sugar cane coke, Jarrito Mexican soda, and Sangria save the alcohol.
For desert, which we passed on: Churros, Fried Ice Cream, Flan Napolitano custard, and Plantanos Fritos.
In addition they offer chips & salsa or queso.
They offer a kids menu of $5
The process is similar to Chipolte. Decide on when the ingredients will be put in I chose a edible Taco bowl. Then I chose Mexican yellow rice, then steak for my meat, then corn and salsa and a medium sauce. The food was less than what we would get from Chipolte a few blocks away but it was cheaper. That was $11.45 plus $4 for my Pineapple drink. E’s plate was $9. Total was $29.66, cheaper than McDonalds.
Los Cactus was OK but not worth the return.
