Land O Lakes Kennel Club Show
If I had a list of things to do in Jan, Feb, March in Minnesota, the Land O Lakes Kennel Club Show at River Center in January would always be near the top.
There for about $10 each you can see over 1100 dogs and owners with almost 200 breeds strutting their stuff in a dozen dog show rings.
If you are thinking about buying a pure bred dog in the next year or so it is not to miss event. There you get to see and talk to owner, breeders of hundreds of breeds of dog and see if a breed you picked is a breed for you. If you are a stay at home type the German Shorthair Pointer is not the dog for you.
Equally if you run every morning the Xoloitzcuintli or Mexican Hairless is not the dog for you. And if you are honest with the experts at the show they will not want you to have their breed if you do not fit. They will help you find a dog that will fit your way of life.
I have shown Our Vizsla at the Land O Lakes Kennel Club show and have won my class. My son at ten years old took his English Springer Spaniel to the Junior Handler class and he ribboned in his class. Sorry I can’t remember what place, that will happen when you have tears in your eyes.
Even if you are not buying a dog or not getting advice for your dog at home it is a great runaway from the January cold.
The only request I have is watch the show ring and ask people if they are done showing. Prior to going in the ring life can be a bit hectic. After they are done in the ring most would absolutely LOVE to talk about dogs and their breeds.
We have a number of local dog clubs enough so about every other month you can go to a show. Go to the AKC American Kennel Club website to get the calendar and location of the shows.
And it you need more advice at the show, look for a short stocky black guy or ask a few people if they have seen Daryl and tell him Dennis said hi and ask him any dog question you desire. He’s a dog author you know!
Enjoy!
