Many of us love history. But what most of us like most about history is bizarre history. Who drew up the attack plan for Pearl Harbor? The US NAVY in the 1930s had a paper written on how you might attack Pearl Harbor. It was so popular it came out in book form. The Japanese bought a ton of them and every Japanese pilot had a copy. They did exactly as the US Navy said, because the US Navy never fixed any of the problems. We need to learn from history.

California would be a backwater of wine if it weren’t for the Judgement in Paris. If you are in the least bit interested in wine, there are THREE wine movies to watch. Today we with the Judgement of Paris the Movie is Bottle Shock. Great actors Bill Pullman the president in Independence Day. Alan Rickman, remember he took over Naka Tomi Plaza as Hans Gruber and was in Ghostbusters. Also staring Chris Pine & Randall Miller. The other two movies are Sideways and Sour Grapes (we had people on our back deck screaming at sour grapes).

The Bottle Shock movie goes through Hans Gruber (sorry I love his character) as a wine importer. He works with Bill Pullman to get California wines judged against the best French wines by the Top French officials. But upon shipping the clear wine to France the wine got shook and turned brown (bottle shock) that cleared in a few days. There was a Judgement of great French wines against the California Wines. And the California wines, as judged by the greatest FRENCH JUDGES won. It turned international wine sales on its ears in the 1970s. After the Judgement the WORLD wanted to try California Wine.

Well Doug of North Loop Wine & spirits who runs www.6ozpour.com had a wine tasting
similar to what the French did. We tasted six pairs of wines and judged them.

Now I am great at judging Red versus White wine. Actual over the years I have slowly gotten better. E on the other hand is worlds better than me. Covid did a number on her tasting ability.

So, Doug taught us about the wines and how the tasting worked and taught us about how this FRENCH Judgement changed the world of wine consumption.
