The Hitching Post II Grill

After finishing at Fess Parker at 1PM we needed lunch. One of the handful of places we knew we must see is the Hitching Post II restaurant. It is the prime filming location of the B movie Sideways. Some would argue the greatest wine movie of all times. That argument besides, it the movie that has changed the wine industry in the past 25 year more than anything else.

So, we went to the Hitching Post II the main stage restaurant for Paul Giamatti’s Wine movie Sideways. The Hitching Post was closed but sharing a parking lot was their burger grill place where we ate.

If you have never seen Sideways here is an overview: Struggling writer and wine enthusiast Miles (Paul Giamatti) takes his engaged friend, Jack (Thomas Haden Church), on a trip to wine country for a last single-guy bonding experience. While Miles wants to relax and enjoy the wine, Jack is in search of a fling before his wedding. Soon Jack is sleeping with Stephanie (Sandra Oh), while her friend Maya (Virginia Madsen) connects with Miles. When Miles lets slip that Jack is getting married, both women are furious, sending the trip into disarray.

The Hitching Post II restaurant is closed days. But brilliantly they have created an outdoor grill so we all could say we ate at the Hitching Post. Same parking lot, same view. A burger joint, which they claim is Wagyu burgers and they might have been, for the $17 we paid, they were good as were the fries. And it was a nice grill place centrally located in the wine region. It was a great convenient place to eat. We probably drove past it four times.
