We love rooftop restaurants, we love the Hewing Hotel. So when we found out the Hewing opened their rooftop restaurant to the public, we were in.
A few weeks ago we came up here and planned for tonight. When I say planned, we did not get reservations, sadly there are no reservations for the rooftop. It is first come first seated.
We got in the elevator at the back of the Hewing restaurant and hit 5, after hitting the top level six twice and going nowhere. When the door opened on the fifth floor we were in the Hewing Hotel. Not good.
So we hit one, and returned to start and asked WTF at the desk. Turns out you need a security card to get to the sixth floor restaurant. Which we got.
When we got to the restaurant it was full but not packed. Nice for a Friday night at 7. There is an inside bar and a patio/deck under the stars. They have ten tables of four. Forty people max!
We walked out to the deck where we found about 8 people looking for a table. Next to the door was a couple that just got their bill with two open chairs. We asked if we could sit with them until they left and they said that’s how they got the table and said OK. They happen to be from the burbs too. Ten minutes later the table was ours.
Reservations would be nice but something about the sport of the hunt is fun too!
The view is great. The Hewing is located between Target field and the River on Washington. So it’s a great view like our number one favorite Skybar, but the view is about a mile back, same buildings a further back view, both nice.
The menu is a QR Menu on your cell phone, which we hate but it’s what they have.
They have four wines by the glass: a Noir, a Cab, a Rioja, a Barber D’Alba. Which is fine with us but it is a bit small.
We ordered E’s Cab and tonight instead of the Noir I went with the Rioja. The cost of a glass is $15. Both wines were excellent.
We ordered our favorite $9 French Fry appetizer as we looked over the limited bar food menu. The Fries were great and came ketchup and a dill sauce.
For entrees we ordered Hanger Steak with Charred Broccolini and burnt onions $29. The mini Lobster Rolls with coconut & Passion Fruit $22.
The Lobster Roll was good. The Hanger Steak was exceptional! Evan was our hard working server.
The bill was $114 which wasn’t too bad for food and the view.
Does this rooftop get into our top ten? Can we put it at eleven the lack a of reservations is the only major complaint we have? By the way our waiter Evan was great.
We’ll be back!
