Harmony Wine Bar
One of the reasons we find so many unusual places to eat and visit is because every Friday night after the national news we go to North Loop Wine & Spirits on Washington Ave in the North Loop of Minneapolis. The people there probably know more about the food and beverage scene in the Twin cities than anyone else we have met. Every Friday night from 4-8 there is a server from one of the local beverage distributors. We are on a first-name basis with nearly all of them and the salespersons in the store.
It’s kind of a Ying/Yang between us and them. We tell them what we have discovered, and they tell us about the new places we need to try. Staci one of our favorite wine reps have been on us to try out a new small wine bar called Harmony in the Nordeast.
We have waited a couple of months mostly because we were trying fish places for lent. And truly we forgot the name. But last week we went to Harmony Wine Bar. One of the reasons we hate going just after they open is because some of the issues are not always worked out in a new place and we like to go when they are ready. And we never tell anyone in advance we are coming or show pictures of E & me. We want you to see it as we see it with no special things we might get. See it as you should expect it.
When I become king, I am going to ask any new restaurant have a spotlight filling the sky so we can find it. I hate it when the GPS says we are there, and E looks at me and says WHERE? That was the case for Harmony. But go the extra step it was well worth it. I try to shoot a picture of the corner street sign to get you close and it helps.
So, the other night we looked for and found Harmony Wine Bar. What an incredible find. OK it is at 501 NE 1st Ave Mpls that’s a block from 1st Ave NE & 5th St NE it’s a few blocks from Surdyks or Ground Zero.
Harmony Wine bar is an interesting concept we absolutely love. Mornings the place is called Harmony Coffee. In the evenings the same venue is Harmony Wine bar… Brillant! You enter Harmony from the alley. We parked on 1st Ave NE and walked up hill to it. It reminded me of San Francisco, the whole area. They had a nice sign on the sidewalk we could see as we walked into the alley.
As we walked in it was in a word quaint. Harmony is a small cozy place. There were 16 people at tables when we walked in in a place that could seat about 30. There were 3 bar tenders/wait staff. The wine list was limited but they were great wines. Not your traditional Cabs but wines worth discovering.
The music playing was Michael McDonald played on 70s & 80s Vinyl. Who plays vinyl anymore. It was music played how music was designed to be played. If you don’t know Michael McDonald he is known for: What a fool believes, You Belong to me with the Doobie Brothers, This Is It with Kenny Loggins, Minute by Minute. The tunes were to die for!
You take a date here and it does not end in a night to remember, run away!
The food we had was perfect with wine. We had fresh bread with butter & honey. We had watermelon radishes we love thinly sliced. And some incredible cheeses and cracker sticks. It was all memorable. The cost was only $58. This is a great before or AFTER bar/restaurant place. The place is worth checking out and we most assuredly will be back.
