I started going to Grand Old Day in the early 80s. It is the largest FREE one day festival in the Midwest. It’s also the festival that starts the summer in the Twin Cities. It’s the First Sunday in June. This year it landed on June 7th.  E joined me in the late 1980s. E and I missed Grand Old Day ONCE since the 1980s. Missing a long time friends wedding was unacceptable for Grand Old Day. That was our only miss in decades.

The weather this year was perfect as the heat moved in about noon. We went to park in a different path this year. We took 35E to St Clair Ave south of Grand Ave. We normally come in from the north on Fairview to St Clair then to Pascal to park a block from Grand Ave. Today we parked Lincoln & Chatsworth. Which made our walk to the St Paul Grand Ave end about a mile less. We will do the same next year. It is much quicker and little traffic.

The hour-long parade starts at 9:30AM. This years parade seemed smaller than most. It seemed like less candy and give always. The Vulcan’s, politicians and the regulars like Renaissance and cool cards were there but the parade still seemed smaller.

We normally walk Grand Ave to the East end where the is a Hardware store. Normally we find great wild bird stuff, nothing caught our eye today. There was plenty of things to eat. Water was $4 and a foot long corndog was $10  

We will be back again next year.
