The Finnish Bistro
If you are a fan of Bob Dylan or know the history he brought to the Twin Cities somewhere the “Coffee House” where he was discovered will be mentioned. It was located at Cedar Riverside and full of interesting people and music groups. But that was the 60s & 70s. The Coffee House is gone now. But the memory of it can be seen a few miles away in St Anthony Park at a place called the Finnish Bistro & Coffee & Bakery on the corner just across the street from the old Library.
Periodically E will schedule and say this could be interesting, this was one of those nights. Our attitude is if it is something new to us it is new to one of our readers and we should go there. We have walked past this place every year for the past twenty years. The Finnish Bistro is a coffee shop and Bistro on the corner across from the library downtown on Como downtown St Anthony Park between 280 and the fairgrounds.
We walked in on and listened to a three piece band that could sing it seems everything from Puff the Magic Dragon to Neal Diamond Classics. We rarely get a band before 8 on Friday, this was fun. The people in the coffee shop were definitely 60s type people that would be equally at home at either coffee house, and everyone was nice to everyone.
Being a Bistro the menu is mostly sandwichs and salads. I had a Viking burger $16 for E had a cheese pizza $14 and a Greek Salad for $15.50. And we both had a wines at $8 a can… YES a can, we have had better. That said it was the BEST canned wine we ever had… also the ONLY… Our bill was $69 plus $10 in tax and other charges and I gave the band $10… $90.
It’s an interesting night at the Coffee House.
