Did you ever go to an art show and wish you could pay to park closer? We thought the same thing until we saw $20 to park for an hour. Get your walking shoes on. Starting the first week in June with the Edina Art Show we go to an art show or three every weekend. The art show after Edina 50th & France is Excelsior downtown. Many of the same local artists we see at several shows in June.
We buy outdoor Garden Art. We have about 30 pieces. We prefer the metal ones that move in the wind. This is the first year in 20+ of feeding ducks and geese that we had baby goslings. In fact E lost count at 20 of them. All of which we feed daily. We make sure Grandpa Menards can keep his grandsons in Indy cars with our weekly corn donation. E daily goes out to make sure the goslings are fed.
So when E saw an artist that took river rocks and added a metal body and head to make a momma goose and goslings it got her attention. But like all art how much attention? Let's just say they are under $200 but more than a meals we review. The set of four will be purchased from the nice couple we spoke to at the art fair. We'll see them at Stone Arch & the Wayzata Art shows in a few weeks. This is how we buy our outdoor art.
Let's talk about the Excelsior Art Show. It has changed dramatically over the years. At one time the art show was in the park by the lakeshore. But it has been moved to downtown. The advantage is mostly for the downtown Excelsior Reail store who get a ton more foot traffice to the point of chaos.
The Excelsior Art Show seems to grow every year. I would argue this year it has doubled in size over it usual two blocks two sides. Though it is still walkable and wheel chair & baby stroller friendly.
By increasing it's size more retail non-art (roofs, windows & siding) vendors are allowed in. And they were playing nice. But the expansion also included a food truck area. Other than parking, there is that $20 lot, expect to walk a bit. And traffic can be a bit hectic. But you feel safe ther and security is great.
One last thing as we came into town we drove past Haskell Bottle shop. Sadly it was lost to a fire a few months ago. I believe they are rebuilding nonetheless it looks sad..
