Domaćin

We have reviewed and visited most of the wine bars in the metro. That will happen when you own The MN Wine Club and we taste every Friday night at North Loop before we go out and review a restaurant.

So when we found out about Domaćin Wine Bar across the street from the Lowell Inn a block from downtown Stillwater we knew we would go.

We heard it was a nice place but loud. We are the types that keep our conversation to our table as opposed to the Look At Me types that belong in a Sports Bar or Legion. But to each their own. Other than acoustics I don't know what you do with loud people, it is a complaint about the place and we sat on the patio/deck.

So let's talk about Domaćin Wine bar. If we get pass the noise it is in the elite restaurants to have wine & a dinner. They have unbelievably THIRTY pages on their wine list from $400/bottle to $30. We are the $15/glass types. E had a great Paso Cab and I had a staff recommendation Nebbiolo. Both were great wines, good pours and in the correct glasses.

The reason for the 30 pages is connected wine shop that is not huge but a nice place to fine nice wines.

For food we had Greek Flat bread. For those of us that perhaps need to be better educated on food it was like a mini pizza and was very good.

Next we had the soup de jour tonight it is wedding soup. Knock me over with a pin… I never heard of it. E said she always wanted to try it and never had.

It looked like a turn of a century soup… wait LAST century. Something baby boomers grandparents would make. It had like a chicken broth with carrots & meatballs. I think it had stewed potatoes. Anyway it was good. And unlike grandmas that was made with anything they had in the fridge it had a recipe and was often requested.

Next we had a fresh bread plate with olive oils & balsamic vinegar. Very good.

Lastly we Risotto Bistecca. Which for those of us that is much better at writing about bird dogs which I will review in about 11 hours at the TC Vizsla Hunt Test in Baldwin is kinda beef tips& Risotto Pasta in a sauce. It is good. E was not pleased.  We had so much food we had to leave half of the last course in the bowl.

The most pleasant part other than the wines was the $92 bill… VERY reasonable these days even with the 4% operational fee added.

Amazingly as we were finishing, out of the ten tables in our area three had left and you could have heard a mouse. So I guess the loud many of us heard was based on the night & people.

Many of you ask about why we return to certain places. This is a return to place. Why? Great food and an incredible wine selection and the people were nice too. We'll be back!
