We are traditional people in a non-traditional world. If we find something that is well run, and we enjoy it we will be back every year. Ask the people at: Elements Pizza, North Loop Wine, Martina, WA Frost, Hewing, Parley Lake & St Croix Winery and a dozen other places we go to at least once a year. If you ask us about Christmas Trees, the name is Country Sun Farm on 36 in Lake Elmo on the way to Stillwater is our place. They are nice people that just do it right.
This time of year, many of us watch the Seasons classic movies like The Christmas Story. Ralphie you CAN’T have a BB Gun You’ll shoot your eye out! In that movie they do the great scene of Ralphie’s dad picking out the perfect Christmas Tree from a possible less than honest proprietor though BOTH parties should be questioned. Picking out the perfect Christmas Tree can be a challenge. WE have bought trees from a dozen places. Cut our own, went to a dozen lots then one day we stumbled upon Country Sun Farms, probably on the way to a wine event.
When picking out a tree there is only ONE way they should be presented; hanging from the top center trunk, two feet off the ground so they can be twirled. It helps when you need to decide which side to turn to the wall and you can’t have three sides you desire to hide. None of that at Country Sun Farms.
Country Sun Farms must have 200 trees on display to choose from and more added each day. We used to go to the back of the green housed and choose from 100 8’- 9’ Frazer Firs. Two years ago, we walked through the FRONT of the store and looked at the bigger and corporate trees and fell in love. Now we pick from the dozen or so perfect trees, pay the $120 for an 9’+ tree and know it will great.
We were in question on Monday about the status of our grandkids to help us pick out our tree traditionally the Friday after Thanksgiving. We knew we’d have them the day before Thanksgiving, so we thought we’d try for that day.
So, I called up Country Sun Farms, least I thought I did. I spoke to a lady and asked if they’d be open tomorrow the day before Thanksgiving to buy Christmas tree. The lady said: “We shouldn’t be, but my husband would be upset if I turned down business so sure, we can be open for you. I said great I’ll bring you a bottle of wine, She, said she would prefer a rose. I said a Rose it is see you tomorrow, Thanks.
So, on the way to pick out the most beautiful Christmas tree of 2025 with E & the grandkids, I stopped at Target and picked up some roses for our nice tree lady. We got to Country Sun, and I went in with the roses as E was helping the kids get out of the truck. I walked in and saw two nice 30–40-year-old gentlemen at the desk. I said where the nice lady is I talked to yesterday about coming early today. They said there’s no lady that works here. I paused and said I bought some roses for you and your ladies… and they looked puzzled but thanked me.
Soon E and the grandkids were searching for the favorite tree for 2025. And they were all within ten feet of each other. Much better than the cheaper area where we picked our eight best trees and posted the grandkids as sentries to guarantee no one else got one of our eight perfect trees. Yes, we paid a few bucks more $120 instead of $90 for a smaller less than perfect tree, but Christmas 2025 only comes once.
I let E and the kids take care of securing the tree as I walked around the greenhouse to see what was new. This year it seemed like there was more display pieces for sale like wreathes and art pieces like decorated antique sleds you may not find elsewhere.
Then I thought I’d investigate what was this years tree crop. I got half was to the general tree area and I saw a group of Short Squat trees. They were five foot tall and just as wide. We all know people like that. I looked at the tag and it said Turkish Trees. And they were shaped exactly like the great Sophia Grand Mosque we saw in Turkey at the end of our May Mediterranean Cruise. The trees WERE different if you desire that.
Country Sun Farms has a TON of Christmas Tree options from the Charlie Brown Type to the Corporate trees. And it can be fun to walk around. They have flocked white trees for $200+, some incredible wreathes and something for everyone.
Once to choose your tree you find an attendant to process it for you. They will add a fresh cut to the base and put a shipping web around it and load it on your vehicle for the ride home.
They also offer the Super Stand. Joe Soucheray once spoke of the EIGHTH Christmas tree is put up once, all other years need to be put up more than once. E and I have a basis for that as we watched a movie on the carpet next to our tree and a roaring fire and watched our seventh tree slowly fall on us. Since then, we got the bigger tree stand we need to borrow a forklift to get in the house every year.
If you don’t have your tree yet. Or you desire to look into options for next year, give Country Sun Farms of Lake Elmo a try is sure will get you in a Holiday spirit. And the Great thing is Christmas Smells don’t COST Nuthin!
