Tonight we are at Colita on 54th & Penn.

Rarely do we walk in a restaurant and say… OMG this is packed. But as we were looking for a  parking spot we kind of assumed we were next to a high school who had a football game.  Nope all inside Colita.

E made reservations earlier in the week and we got in at 7:15 after our usual Friday night wine tasting at North Loop. No great place gets you in the same week. I guess a well run place like Colitas does.

Joe was our server and was very attentive.

The wine list is a bit short if you are buying by the glass as we always do. But they had Columbia Valley Cab for E. I had an Argentina Malbec. They had a Willamette Noir but after drinking Willamette Noirs for three days over the Fourth of July we are kinda Willamette Noir'd out.

E's Cab definitively was breathed the perfect amount to make it as she said yummy! We fight that all the time when we host wine tastings with the MN Wine Club. My Malbec was equally smooth.

Colita has high ceilings like Patina in Linden Hills that we love for how quiet it is. This place is packed, and a bit loud, but it's quiet enough we don't have to listen to others conversations even though we are two feet from the next table.

The menu is small plate. And it is  all Gluten Free. Our first plate was a Chicken Taco. It was a great Taco with some spicey zip! It was VERY tasty, a bit too hot for Norwegian E.

Our second plate was a pizza type of thing on a hard tortilla. It had white melted cheese that looked like but did not taste like mozzarella. We are big cheese fans but this is new to us. Even though we are regulars at Surdyks fine cheese shop.

E mentioned how amazingly fast our food came out. Five minutes after the wine, so it wasn't rushed but timely. We had 7:15 reservations and were seated on time if not early. At 8:00 we were done with three courses.

Our last small plate was Sea Bass and it was equally as good as the first two plates. Great Sea bass.

I'm not a big healthy eater. When I think of Gluten Free I think of card board and feel bad for my daughter-in-law who can only choose that. But Colita has Great food that just happened to be Gluten Free. Viva La Chefs.

The General Manager dropped off the bill… what class! We talked with him for 30 seconds, more than any other place in months. You want to know how your customers really feel, it don't hurt to have a manager say Hi.

Our bill for three plates and two glasses of wine was $108, a bit more then some places. They add $5 to bills for health & wellness of their employees. Much better than the 20% of the bill some charge.

Great place, I'd put it in our top ten. I think the first one this year.
You must try it.
