The Chef/owner Mark Stevens insists on home made recipes and resist "ready-made" food the way Grandpa Carmelo would insist on.
Carmelos Restorante is an upscale Italian restaurant across the street from Macalester Sports fields
A good wine selection mostly Italian and California 12 reds & 10 whites $8.50- $10/glass
They have a pickup/ picnic for two package: a table cloth, silverware, napkins & candle & matches, bottle opener, two pasta dishes, side salad, bread, cannoli desert and a bottle of wine & glasses for $75. We might take them up on that someday. Shelly told us you can order it earlier in the day or an hour before you plan the date,
Server Shelly she was the old style of waitress that knows her stuff and gives great service. 30 seconds after we chose our wines our glasses were full... we have never had such fast pour and they were good. E had a Cab Sav and I had a Cab Sav Sangiovese Italian blend.
The decore reminded me of an old Italian restaurant in NYC, complete with linen on the table and Frank singing. Carmelos is smaller place with only 17 tables but a great date night restaurant. There was sadly only five couples since it was reservations only.
We ordered the garden & Caesar salads, calamari, crab & scallops
The calamari was rubbery as it should be. Es Caesar salad was ok, my Garden Salad with Raspberry's balsamic dressing was better than most. The crab & scallops was some of the best flavorful Italian dishes we had been seeking for six months. We split one entre as we usually do and it was of perfect size.
And don't leave before trying their to die for home made Rhubarb pie while Frank sings MY WAY!
We have driven past Carmelos for thirty years on our way to Grand Old Day. We are glad we finally stopped. To us it is in the Top five TC Italian restaurants worth a try. Maybe on DATE NIGHT!
