Brophies Seafood Restaurant

One of the things we don’t do enough of when we are on writing exertions is asking about restaurants. And almost without fail great people in most industries know the great places to go and eat. When we were at Grassini Winery E asked one of the owners where is a good place to eat in Santa Barbara? He said have you been to Brophy’s yet? We said no. He said you absolutely can’t leave the area without trying the best seafood restaurant on the coast.

So, despite not being home and making reservations six weeks in advance we set to the Santa Barbara Warf and saw if we could get a place on Friday July 3rd, a POPULAR night.

When we arrived at 4PM we were told they do not take reservations. So, we took a deep breath and at least we could take the SMELL of great seafood back to Minnesota. Then we returned to the Marriot and spent some time recharging in the Hot Tub.

About 7 we got dressed and started our quest to eat at Brophy’s Brothers Seafood Restaurant on the Santa Barbara Warf. We knew the area and quickly found a parking spot. E got us on the list, and they were hoping to get us a spot in 45 minutes. At which time two people left the bar and quickly E&I took their seats. Forty-Five minutes had never gone faster.

As we sat down the bartender said:” What can I get you?” He said I feel like making you margaritas! I said margaritas it is. He said he only had Peach Margaritas! I said PEACH it is! He said with our without salt? I said surprise us! He laughed and said I wish more people were like you.

We were at the best seafood place in a hundred miles, overlooking the harbor and just saved 45 minutes on the wait… Livin Da Dream!

When he returned with drinks I asked if we could eat at the bar? He said normally not but for you’re nice people sure. And he gave us menus.

E looked over the menu and spied Clam Chowder which she said was the best freshest clam chowder she had ever had. Get this for $4! Then we shared a seafood pasta bowl for $27 which was incredible. Our bill was $60 half of which were drinks. Not only GREAT food & drinks but reasonably priced and fast! WITH a view. If you are going to Santa Barbara, put Brophy Brothers Restaurant in the harbor on your list of must sees! We’ll be back!
