Book Club May 30

One of the things E and I like about our ToDoTC reviews is you have no idea what to expect for that evening. Hell most the times we are on our way to our Every Friday night wine tasting in North Loop before I even know where are will be eating, what area of town or what type of food.

We own a hunting dog magazine so we know our share of writers. So the name Book Club alone peaked our interest. Second the Book Club restaurant is at 50th and Penn in Minneapolis, one of our favorite places for restaurants. So, before we event saw the place they were up two.

So we drank our wine and headed for Edina just north of Southdale. We have been to restaurants in the area that we could see a block before we arrived as a OMG venue. That is not the Book Club. The Book Club is a simple restaurant location with a nice patio up front.

But we do not judge a book by it's cover, especially at a restaurant called the Book Club. They had off street parking so at least THAT was a major plus. It was an average sized restaurant. Nothing to catch our eye. In fact when writing this review I looked through other reviews to see if there was something I missed and the Minnesotan word "Nice" came up a lot. And I can't argue with that assessment. Would Phil Hartman meet you at the door and say: " Be prepared to be knocked on your As*!" It's a nice restaurant.

For a wine selection they had six reds of a variety most would sound acceptable for a place of this type. E had the Cab Sav and I had the Tempranillo. Both were under $16 a glass and were fine.

After which we shared a Caesar Salad and Calamari and the Pasta of the day. The pasta of the day we had was a Garnacha?? Which was fine but nothing to write home about.

The food was good but far from great. We are glad we have another restaurant we have been asked about checked off our list but will not be returning.

The birthday party across the bar who's jubilance filled the restaurant to the point we needed to speak up to talk across the table perhaps did not help the ambiance, but I don't have a good solution for people that choose to be loud.

Out bill for three glasses of wine and 3 items all shared was $97 plus time. It was about average for what we pay when we go out. Average is fine for what we see as an average restaurant.

Oh in case you wanted to know about the Book Club restaurant name. So did we. I looked on the Book Clubs website and asked the Atri dee on the way out neither made me any wiser.

If you are interested, they take reservations or just drop on in. It wasn't a bad experience it was … "NICE!"
