Boca Chica | Restaurante Mexicano & Cantina
--------- From Boca Chica Website -------------
Family-owned mainstay for margaritas & hearty plates of Mexican fare in casual, hacienda-style digs.
Boca Chica Mexican Restaurant has served the flavorful, authentic cuisine of Mexico since 1964. My grandmother and grandfather, Guillermo and Gloria Frias, opened the doors welcoming customers to our new restaurant, that seated only 28 patrons.
Boca Chica was named by my grandfather, Guillermo, after a small town on the Gulf of Mexico where he spent many memorable times. “Boca Chica”, translated, means “little mouth of the river”. Today, Boca Chica has grown substantially and is rated “one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities,” according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine’s March 2006 issue.

There are Mexican Restaurants in town and then there is Boca Chica.
Boca Chica has been in the same spot at 11 Cesar Chavez St, St Paul, since 1964. We have been going to La Casita for 10+ years but if you want a REAL authentic restaurant, would it not be on Cesar Chavez St in St Paul since the 60s. If you are looking for the Twin Cities Cinco De Mayo Party stand on top of Boca Chica you will be at Ground Zero. You can find a few Mexican Restaurants in the area.
Walking into Boca Chica is like walking into a cantina in Mexico, been there done that. The menu is a bit more American than a Mexican Cantina but that is appreciated in the midwest. Though I know it is very Mexican I cant help but ordering Fajitas, which I did. E ordered an enchilala, both were good size and were very good. for drinks we had a margarita and a Cab Sav red wine, no need for a second, great size for the meal. We finished with fried ice cream that was actually a carmelized version but still good.
If you are looking for a great Mexican food experience give Boca Chica, a few blocks from Wabasha Caves just across the river from downtown St Paul, a try... But NOT on Cinco De Mayo, it nuts just then.... enjoy!
