One of the reasons we start our Friday night at North Loop Wine & Spirits after the evening news is because the wine server and people at the free tasting know area restaurants, festivals, foods and wines. We had heard several times about the new wine bar opening a few blocks away on Washington called Barcelona. Food & wine? We are there. 

So, Friday night E left the night kind of open. We were going to go to Elements Wood Fired Pizza, our go to Pizza place on Broadway & University. You know the place next to the big McDonalds and the Broadway bridge going over the river. But we though the earliest reservations we could get at Barcelona Wine Bar was 8:30 we thought we’d check at 7:00. As it turned out Barcelona had two places at the bar just for us! Perfect. 

Barcelona is one of the nicest wine bars in the metro, that said few aren’t a great place to spend an evening. Barcelona just seems a bit more plush than most. It’s a fairly large place. The only complaint I have is I was lucky enough to get a parking place two blocks away. Perhaps I should have scouted more. 

Barcelona like most great restaurants/wine bars has an interesting interior. A lot of room dividers to make things intimate. And entire wall of wine bottles. In a word the place is a comfortable place to have wine and food.

We had two glasses of red wine for about $14, the going price. We had a cutrea plate called drunken Goat with Murcia ES, Semi-soft Goats Milk Cheese, Red soaked with with Brucello that E thought was exceptional for $11. Then we had an interesting plate of three seared prawns with Hollandaise & grapefruit Mojo for $17.50 which was a chefs work of art. Finally we had a plate of Roasted Shrooms with Almonds, Parsley and Garlic for $11.50. It was a light dinner but we only paid $76.66 and we got to finally see the place.
