Bar Rufus
It is not often that we are surprised by a restaurant, tonight we are. Tonight we are at Bar Rufus in the Rand Building 6th & Marquette.
Nora is waitress she could not have been cuter, nicer or better trained.
We came here based on suggestions from a wine tasting. It is not what we normally go to, but we are here we'll see.
The place, food and prices remind us of a noon business lunch place. Or a hotel restaurant. Not so much a destination restaurant.
We have only received wine so far, which was good. But if you are going to dimly lit place please don't print your menu in size 5 font with a fancy Serif font… we simply can't read it. But we managed.
We ordered two red wines. A Cab Franc from Loire Wine region of France and a second from Languedoc, French wine region. The server were unsure when they brought them, but the wines were fine. The wines we got did not match what was on the bill… fine but strange.
We ordered a Lobster salad, Smoked Salmon and French Frites. All of which were under $20.
We like quiet places where we don't need to hear the girlfriend reunion across the place. Quiet this place is not.
As far as dress, come as you are. There are a few baseball caps and the girlfriend reunion was in tiny black dresses.
The décor is Art Deco. We are kitty corner from Wells Fargo Bank on the corner… We are seeing our share of traffic at the intersection.
The bathrooms are in the hotel lobby they are not a place to go when you are drunk and susceptible to bed spins. The tile floor is amazing. I had to get the combination to go to the restroom. It had a two in it.
When I returned our food had arrived. It was on three plates. French Fries and two plates each with two 1" x 3" inch high pieces of bread.
One had about an inch of green Lobster salad on it. The other was similar with smoked salmon. Small food we might get when touring a winery. All the food was very good, though it wont feed a football player. But as our regular readers know we always split everything, so take that in consideration.
The food was very good. Will we be back? No real compelling reason to. But again it was good.
Our bill was $79, which was fine for going out. But had we each had our own entree's it would have been $160 which would have been pricey.
They do NOT charge the 20% downtown tax. Which is appreciated. But we are still having to pay $10 for parking. It was an interesting place but not a destination restaurant.
