If you have never been to one of the three Ax Man surplus stores in the Twin cities: St Paul Midway, Fridley and St Louis Park do not say you know the great secret spots in the Twin Cities. These three places are shrines to the unusual. If you have a rainy day with nothing to do you should head to and spend a couple of hours at one of the Axman Stores.
Don’t know what you will find at an Axman Store, the truth is some of the people working there do not know. But it one of the most fun hours you may spend this year. I’ll bet there are a dozen things in our house from Axman. From boxes to hold papers and mailing envelopes, to electronic hardware or nuts and bolts to fix things. The other day when we presented the Wine Tasting at the Wayzata Yacht Club, we had to bring out maps & posters carried in in a 3’x4’ art storage holder there.
If it is unusual, it’s at Axman including fake missiles, a hyperbaric chamber and some strange mannequins. Take a photo tour with us. We saw cloth & plastic 4’ wide for that project or car interior upgrade, T shirts that say god knows what, Pot berrets, Cowboy safari hats, mailing tubes, camping stuff, old electronic equipment like O-scopes, a torpedo, Christmas stuff, plastic skulls, and wire ties, all kinds of strange, medical and lab stuff, 9 mm sockets (not the 10 mm we lose) an old mimeograph machine, cotton candy machines, wires, hoses, nuts & bolts electronic parts.
How could you ever miss a place like that!!
