The Applehouse

About fifteen years ago as we were getting introduced to wine we discovered Steve who owned Parley Lake Vineyards of Waconia. We went out to took our grandkids out to meet Steve, learn about grapes and wine and pick some apples.  E did not call in advance. Turns out all apples and grapes were picked for the year and the only one there was the grounds crew mowing lawn. Well, that is not how we planned the day.

We take highway 7 west of the metro to Parley on the way we drive past Princes house. We also drive past the University of MN Arboretum where the Honeycrisp Apple and many varieties of local Minnesota Cold weather Grapes were cross bred and invented. We noticed within a mile of the Arboretum was a Pick your own apple and pumpkin patch called The Applehouse.

The Applehouse is run by the MN Arboretum.  The Applehouse has an incredible selection of the fall harvest for pumpkins and gourds. They also have wagons to tour the yard and get the exact perfect one for your home. E walked the grounds with the grandkids. While I explained to our grandson though a wagon race might be fun, him and I would probably get kicked out making E none too happy.

Inside the building was all kinds of ciders and apples and grapes enough to keep one busy for hours. The place is open daily 9 AM to 6PM and there is no cost to walk around. Gords and pumpkins start at $2 each so you won’t break the bank. Large pumpkins are $20. And the nice thing with the great selection you can FIND a large pumpkin.

The checkout process is pure Minnesotan. You take a picture of your selection then show the checkout lady and she assess what you owe. I wonder if dressing fancy costs you more?

Anyway we spent better than an hour there searching and finding the Perfect Pumpkin! They are moving next year so I’d call before you go out there.
