There are only a few place in the Metro that upon entering you are taken to another place & time 1959 is one of them. If you are looking for fancy pricey fake Cuban food there are other places. Victors 1959 Cafe is authentic. You know you are in for something interesting when you go past the Russian sign telling you, you are leaving the American Sector. 1959 does not have dirt floors but other than the dress of the patrons and English everything else is taken directly from Cuba. There are only about a dozen tables and they did not take reservations when we went.

There was another couple decising where they were going to sit was the Wisconsin Bull Moose as I can be asked the matredee if we could sit by the chef? She said fine and the indecisive couple were given the table that was left.

We LOVE sitting next to chefs and talked to them the entire night. We can talk to each other anytime. We learned a lot about 1959, their foods and how they came to be. The food was colorful and delicious and well worth our $60 bill.

If you are looking for a place that is unusual and very good give 1959 a try. We are going back!
