Tonight we are at ROK Eatery of St Paul. How’s the best way to describe where this place is? Stand between the Schmidt Brewery Smoke Stack and 7th St, turn around and you are THERE! Good directions huh?
Don’t worry about signs, we saw them after we parked and were going to ask… where the hell are we? They have a nice patio under the smoke stack.
ROK is the size of a small brewery that seats about 50. Half on tables half on the bar. Add to that a solo guitar player with his amp turned to eleven. The last song he basically yelled standing next to tables as all conversations stop. But about half the bar were his fans so we decided not to comment. Kinda like the coffeehouse.
The ROC offers Gluten Free options for those that have that need.
If you are into a Nordic/Japanese local flavor bar there is no equal, I would argue ANYWHERE!
I had Japanese Chicken and E had the Nordic Burger and since we just joined the MN Mushroom Society we had a plate of local Mushrooms. Everything was very good. The wine was OK.
Did you ever dip your chicken in broth style sweet & sour sauce. We did and it was good.
Rarely have we seen a bowl of local mushrooms offered. They were very good and worth coming just for them. I ate more mushrooms then the other entrees.
The burger was one of the better we have had in the metro, though fairly small.
If you are not into wines, they offer only three, there are a bunch of international beers & drinks.
The bill was $75 for three plates and two small wines we never finished, which never happens with us. It seemed a bit high. The electronic tip options started at 18% and went up. We ended paying $94.
It’s an interesting place go if you desire, we were not overly impressed.
