Tonight we are at Estelles a Tapa place that was once called Scusi & wine bar near MacCallester in the Mac Grove neighborhood south of 94 and Midway.
Estelle’s is known for Tapas those are small foods that originally was used to place on "top" of your wine glass. Tapas are Spanish, Portuguese and Northern Med cooking. We are tapa fans.
We arrived at 7:12 a few minutes early for out 7:15 reservation and we were seated at 7:20. Estelle’s is a smaller place that can seat about 50 in their main dining room and another 20 in a side wine bar. We understand people wanting to talk with dinner friends but some people take forever. But tonight it was a short wait.
The wine list is amazing with about 30 reds, 20 by glass. E had a Grand Coromas Spanish Cab Sav $16/glass, I chose a Condedo Tempranillo $13/glass. The wines were exceptional as expected.
Nestled in the cozy Mac-Groveland neighborhood, Estelle brings the diverse flavors of Southern Europe to Saint Paul. Estelle pairs a creative menu of Portuguese, Italian and Spanish-inspired comfort foods with a cozy, neighborhood ambiance and a stellar beverage.
For an appetizer we chose the Shrimp Al Ajillo which was pleasant to the palate and the eyes. Then we had Rigatoni for $23 to absolutely die for, god it was good. And being as it was E's birthday we a great desert called Snack Pack Budino for $6.
Estelles is a place you could drive by for years and never go in, but stop in and have a meal, you'll be glad you did and for $97 including winer it's great food at a bargin.
Our waitress Kalli gave us a suggestion to try On’s Thai food by the surf Club Snelling & University which we did.
