On West Seventh & Victoria in St. Paul, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.
In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a railhouse because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.
And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.
From signature Bloody Mary's and favorite menu items to free shuttles to Wild games and concerts, there is always an open invitation to make a meal, a visit or an evening into a Bennett's event!
Tonight we are Bennett on West 7th in St. Paul. It was an interesting drive from North Loop Wine Spirits of Mpls where we start nearly every Friday night with a wine tasting.
E does not always know exactly what she is scheduling us to eat at so on occasion it will be interesting.
It was loud inside Bennetts so we decided to sit on the patio on west 7th, one of the busiest streets in St Paul.
The patio was fine until the PARTY BUS showed up. Yes Bennetts is a eat/park here and we'll bus you to the event. Turns out Rod Stuart was in ton. So 30+ 60+ Rod Stuart fans poured out of the bar. The volume on the patio was turned up. And soon the bus was gone.
Bennetts is basically your neighborhood bar but they specialize in steaks & chops. So that is exactly what we ordered.
But before chops we needed to order wine. I give Bennetts credit for a nice wine list. And they have a Federalist Red which we regularly buy for tastings.
So for apps we started with the Rueben Egg Rolls with corn beef. They were interesting & not bad. But far from. Reuben sandwich.
Then we had a small order of French Fries for $6. Good fries, but how can you screw up fries.
E had medallion pork sliders with onions & cheese. They were OK. I had two pork chops with green beans and wild rice and a salad. My chops were good.
Our final verdict… for a neighbor bar with bus service to events it is not a bad place to park and ride to an event.
