Review: Tonight we are at AxeBridge Wine Company

The AxeBridge Wine Company (Winebar) is the latest addition to area wineries.

It is the latest project of Aaron & Ashley owners of the Schram Winery of Waconia.

We own The MN Wine Club so we have been taking groups out to the Schram Winery since 2013. Their Winery is in the upper tier of wineries in MN. They started making Beer in 2014. So we are familiar with their wines and beers.

The winery is right next to the steel bridge on N Washington Ave a few blocks from North Loop Wine & Spirits, the Hewing and Target field.

The place is fairly large with barrels full of wine throughout. The place is as big as the Hewing restaurant Tullibee a few blocks away.

At their new Winery (Winebar) they offer ten wines produced on-site. We had a CA Cab and a flight of three local wines a red blend (with Marquette and a grape we never heard of though we have been going to dozens of local wineries for ten years) . Also the other two whites were Frontenac Blanc (one of the sweetest local grapes). And another local White wine called Stone Arch White. St pepin, Lacrosse and Brianna grapes.

The wines are OK as expected of MN wines. The CA Cab was just OK. The MN Red blend needed more Marquette and less mixed grapes.

When life is normal we do six tasting a month. Four of which are Friday nights a couple blocks up the street at North Loop Wines and usually two other club events, which sometimes monthly we host.

You need to go in with an open mind, MN Wines here do not compete with the European or California wines though they may be priced the same or higher. We like to support the local growers who are getting better every year.

We ordered a Curt-era tray with enough variety of food for two people. It had  two meats bruschetta & Salami. Mixed nuts  almond, cashews & brazils. Dried cranberries & apricots. Also Brie, a goat cheese and a cheddar cheese... with a crackers and a strawberry preserve.

Our bill was $60, which is low to go out to eat in Minneapolis, but for some the may need a pizza after to fill them up. That said there are a 3-4 places to eat every block around in this area.

One last thing guys. They have beer here and about three ladies for every guy... just Sayin!

Would we come again? Sure we are in six local wine clubs and it’s a fun local venue we’ll come here with our friends for an interesting night. Will it make our top ten... not really.
